We have recently seen an increase in enquiries about Commonwealth-funded paid parental leave. Under the long service leave governing legislation, and subject to limited exceptions, a period where an employee is on unpaid leave does not count as qualifying service and no levy is payable. This includes any periods where an employee is in receipt of the Federal Government funded Parental Leave Pay or Dad and Partner Pay, regardless of whether it is paid to the employee directly by the government agency or in instalments by the employer. If you have any questions regarding paid parental leave, you’re welcome to contact us for guidance.
