An equal world is an enabled world

Today we celebrate International Women’s Day. It is a day for celebrating women’s achievements and raising awareness of the mission to forge a gender equal world. Throughout Australia, only 14% of Chair positions and 17% of CEO positions are held by women. (Source:Australia Government, Workplace Gender Equality Agency.) At Coal LSL we are proud to be in the minority, as the Chair of our Board of Directors and our CEO are both women. The 2020 IWD theme is #EachforEqual, meaning that collectively each one of us can help create a gender equal world.

Coal LSL is pleased to be participating in today’s celebrations, but in order to make a difference, we know it’s important to celebrate and encourage gender diversity every day. Some of our contributions in being #EachforEqual includes:

• Our gender diversity hiring practices, with equal gender representation across our Board and executive team.

• Participating by providing mentors and mentees in the Opportunity Collective Mentorship Program, which builds confidence and leadership in regional women.

• Sponsoring the Central Queensland Capras women’s rugby league team.

We appreciate and celebrate the women in our lives generally, and particularly in the black coal mining industry. Gender diversity is not just good for women, it is essential for economies and communities to thrive – and that is good for everyone!
